# Jamie Thingelstad blog

My personal blog since June 2004, more than 10,000 posts of writing, links, and photos, now published on Micro.blog.

I had a website before I had a blog. I [count June 2, 2004](https://www.thingelstad.com/2025/01/12/if-i-was-born-and.html) as the blog’s official start, the date of its [first post](https://www.thingelstad.com/2004/06/02/expose-of-the.html), and the archive also holds posts dated as far back as 2000 that I added to it later. I found I enjoyed writing in public: telling stories about my life and sharing the projects I was working on. The habit has lasted more than 20 years and over 10,000 posts. The blog is personal and noncommercial.

The blog has moved platforms several times. It started on .Text, a Windows .NET blogging package, and [moved to WordPress](https://www.thingelstad.com/2006/11/25/migrating-text-to.html) in 2006. Apart from a [brief move to Pelican](https://www.thingelstad.com/2014/03/16/i-flopped-httpstcozmirtevd.html) in March 2014, it stayed on WordPress until April 2016, when I [moved it to Squarespace](https://www.thingelstad.com/2016/04/20/moved-my-blog.html), and then to [Jekyll](https://www.thingelstad.com/2017/10/29/managing-years-of.html), hosted first on GitHub Pages and then [on Netlify](https://www.thingelstad.com/2018/12/29/macro-blog.html). I began using Micro.blog in April 2017. In May 2020 I [imported the whole Jekyll site](https://www.thingelstad.com/2020/05/02/importing-jekyll-site.html) into it, more than 1,600 posts and 800MB of images, and Micro.blog has been the blog’s home ever since.

Over the years the writing grew from mostly longer articles to include short updates and, more and more, photographs, as phones made posting easier. My blog posts from each week are also republished in the Weekly Thing.
