# Open Loop

A nine-episode podcast with Garrick van Buren in 2012 and 2013, archived with transcripts and a feed.

Open Loop was a podcast I made with Garrick van Buren. We recorded nine episodes, numbered 0 to 8, from [June 1, 2012](https://www.thingelstad.com/projects/open-loop/0-but-no-shoes/) to April 12, 2013, talking about Kubb, beer and the technology side projects we were tinkering with. It was my first experiment with podcasting ([Open Loop](https://www.thingelstad.com/projects/open-loop/)). It began when I emailed Garrick to ask “why aren’t we doing a podcast?” ([Open Loop #0](https://www.thingelstad.com/projects/open-loop/0-but-no-shoes/)). Eric Goplin, director of Minnesota Kubb, joined us for [episode 6](https://www.thingelstad.com/projects/open-loop/6-loppet-2013/).

On [episode 1](https://www.thingelstad.com/projects/open-loop/1-big-fuzzy-dead-cat/) I told the origin stories of Road Sign Math and Planet Kubb, and on [episode 7](https://www.thingelstad.com/projects/open-loop/7-turtle-turtle-turtle/) the story of WikiApiary, three weeks after it began. I [put the archive back online](https://www.thingelstad.com/2017/06/10/put-the-archive.html) in June 2017, and in October 2026 it was republished as a complete [podcast feed](https://files.thingelstad.com/projects/openloop/podcast.xml), with speaker-labelled transcripts machine transcribed and cleaned up with AI.
