ParseURL adds two parser functions to MediaWiki. {{#parseurl:}} returns one part of a URL, such as its scheme, host, path, query, or fragment, using PHP’s parse_url function. {{#parseurlquery:}} returns the value of a single query parameter, such as the video ID in a YouTube link.
I wrote it on July 15, 2013 and posted that I had “made a super simple MediaWiki extension for parsing URLs.” All three commits in the repository are from that day. The repository is archived.
